The Friends of Our Lady's are holding a FAMILY BINGO NIGHT at School on Friday April 5th, between 6pm and 7.30pm. 

Eyes down at 6.15pm.

There's a 50p entrance fee plus £1 a game or you can get 6 games for £5.00

There will also be books, refreshments and a raffle.  

Bring the family - its not a "school night"!!

This week we started with a day of exciting science experiments led by Supersonic Sue from Fun Science.
Sue started of with a very exciting assembly, in which at one point she set fire to bubbles on my Mrs Manning's hand! There were a lot of gasps … and not just from the children! All the workshops were fully hands and the children loved them. KS1 and Lower KS2 investigated the science of sweets. They learnt about carbon dioxide and how it is used to make fizzy drinks and sweets. They experimented with different sweets, and enjoyed eating them afterwards. The children loved making gooey slime, especially as it smelt like chocolate, but wasn’t edible. Upper Key Stage 2’s workshops entailed mixing chemicals to see fizzing, bubbling, heat production and liquids that suddenly become solids. A favourite was the popping rockets. Just look at the reactions of St Martin class!

The children had a wonderful visit to Parliament.  As well as the World Book Day events the children got the chance to see parts of the Palace of Westminster.  The House of Commons had debates going on so it was not possible to visit there but the children did get into the Westminster Hall, St Stephen's Porch, St Stephen's Hall and the central lobby where tv interviews happen..  They learnt a bit about the history of the building and about the renovation works that are currently happening to preserve the building for future generations.

They got time to walk across Westminster Bridge and see the building they had visited from the outside.

It was a shame the return journey was so long for everyone, although I think the visit to MacDonalds helped!

The children were really well behaved and asked some great questions.   It was a really memorable day.

This year's World Book Day was one of the best we have had.  The time taken by parents and carers to enable the children to come and join in is really appreciated.   

In the morning there was a special Assembly during which everyone was give the chance to show off their costumes.  The judges had a really, really difficult time deciding on the winners.   

A big congratulations to Elarae who won the KS1 prize in her Mary Poppins costume and to Eli who dressed as Moon Boy from Carolyn Garcia's book.    Both Elarae and Eli received a Booker Voucher so they can choose themselves a new book.

This year there was a special prize given to Year 6 who exceeded all expectations in the costumes they wore - a special mention to the Year 6 boys who surprised everyone with their "outfits".

A big thanks goes to Mrs Ali, Mrs Gibbons and Mrs Edmondson for being the judges.

There were story telling opportunities throughout the day, where children could read to each other.  All pupils have entered the National Book Token competition and entries for the school-based "Design a Bookmark" competition were worked on ready for judging later in the week.
