EAT WELL WEEK

The week of the 4th  February has been another creative and interesting week in school with Eat Well week activities happening each day. Each morning our hall has been a hive of activity with so many children taking part in morning breakfast club and ‘wake up, shake up’. Endless rounds of toast were buttered,  cereal munched and juice drank even before our day began.

On Monday all classes enjoyed the ‘know your food quiz’ with children identifying a range of fruits and vegetables followed by taste testing.  I think we all tried something new that day. On Tuesday we all planted seeds to create our own kitchen garden at home. On Wednesday children looked at the eat well plate and how to make sugar swaps . Thursday was a full day of peeling and chopping, with classes working together to create Our Lady’s Signature vegetable soup, it was very tasty! To compliment our soup, on Friday children created their own bread cobs with a variety of fillings: cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, mixed fruit or just plain. Our week ended with a celebration assembly, sharing the children's best bits of the week,  announcing the recipe prize winners and drawing the food-diary raffle winners who all won a recipe book of their own. It was lovely that families were able to take part in our workshops also. Thank you to Mrs Bateman for coordinating this week so that the whole school community can take the time to focus on healthy minds and healthy bodies.
