Summer Term 2025

Weekly Home Learning Expectations – Summer Term

1. Reading Practise – Please take some time to share stories and read with your child, once your child has a reading book please support your child to practise their reading at least 3 times a week - short daily practise is most beneficial to their reading development, please record all home reading in their Reading Journal. All children will change their books to share on a Thursday. Year 1 children and Reception children who have a reading book, will read to an adult on a Monday and Thursday, but may read more with class volunteers, so if they could please bring their reading folder to school each day.

2. Phonics Practise - Please practise RWI sounds with your children at home.

Reception children have learnt all Set 1 sounds -

m a s d t i n p g o c k u b f e l h r j v y w x z th ch qu ng nk  ll ss ff ck

We are also working our blending skills using 'Fred Talk' to read words using these sounds  - see below Words to practise and blending sheets (Once the children know most of their Set 1 sounds and are beginning to blend they will have a ditty sheet to practise their reading and then move on to the RWI books).

Year 1 - Practise Set 2 and 3 sounds and blending to read real and alien words. Phonics Screening Practise Booklets will be sent home each week to prepare for the Phonics Screening Check in June.

3. Spellings Year 1 - Please see below weekly spellings. Each week the children have 3 words to recap (retrieval practise) and 5 new words. Focus Set 2 sounds are highlighted and tricky words shown in red to help the children to learn the words.

4. Maths - Numbots - Please access https://numbots.com/ with your child to practise their basic number skills. All login in details are in children's reading journals and information letters sent out.
