Two Books, Two Ways to Enjoy Reading

    Your child’s matched reading book

This book matches the sounds your child has been taught and their current reading stage. They will already have practised it in school. Reading it again at home helps build confidence, fluency and understanding.

    Your child’s reading-for-pleasure book

This is a book to share and enjoy together. Read to your child, talk about the pictures and enjoy the story or discover something new. Your child is not expected to read this book independently.

    Our Weekly Reading Routine

For children bringing home Little Wandle reading books in EYFS and Key Stage 1:

Thursday: the matched reading book comes home after practice in school.

At home: aim for 10–15 minutes of calm, encouraging reading each evening. Praise effort, talk about the book and complete the reading log.

Monday: return the matched reading book and reading log, ready for the new reading groups on Tuesday.

Our Reading Guide and Parent Letter

Our colourful poster brings together practical tips and reminders to keep handy at home. The parent letter explains our reading arrangements in more detail.
